Working with Animals…..

For this couple a relaxed country feel was important to them and reflected their lifestyle, and having her horse involved was as equally important.

With the age-old saying “never work with children and animals” springing to mind I set out to plan the formal shoot portion of their wedding. With a lot of discussion with the bride and groom everything was set to go and two other horses where also arranged to help even out the numbers.

My horsing background has been less than successful by managing to fall off more horses than staying on, so I’m a little nervous and aware of their acute sensitivity and awareness of those around them.

How will three horses react to my flash? “They will be fine just don’t open an umbrella”. The three parasols I had in my hand got quickly put away!

So with two nervous and probably terrified groomsmen mounted on horses and bridesmaids in place I gingerly pressed down on my shutter & fired my flash gun……..

Leading up to the wedding I had nightmares of three horses rearing tossing off their riders, galloping off and ruining the wedding day, (Thankfully my nursing training would come in handy here) but surely would make a wedding to remember and possibly end up on America’s Funniest Videos.

After pressing the shutter release I looked up to find…..NOTHING HAPPENED! It looked like so much fun the family dog decided to join in, naturally after rolling in all the horse poo!

With the formal shoot wrapped up, no one injured, and the horses back in their paddocks it was time to head back for the reception and party.

Would I work with animals again?….Definitely! The shoot was a lot of fun, relaxing and a new experience to add to the list.
